If a healthy person is exposed to blood or potentially infectious fluids from an HIV-positive person, the only conclusive method of diagnosing HIV infection is through HIV testing/HIV screening.
A rapid diagnostic test (RDT) is a medical diagnostic test that is quick and easy to perform. RDTs allow point-of-care testing by general practitioners (GPs) for conditions that previously could only be done as a laboratory test. They provide same-day results, typically within 20 minutes.
Cross Street Medical Clinic uses the following RDT for HIV testing:
– ALERE HIV COMBO, which is an immunoassay combination test for HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies and p24 antigen
ALERE HIV COMBO has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for HIV RAPID testing. It is also approved and registered by the Health and Safety Authority, Singapore (HSA) as a suitable RDT.
Be responsible. If you are in a new sexual relationship, or have had casual sex, you should screen for HIV and other STDs. An RDT is a painless, fast, and easy test for HIV infection, and testing will give you and your partners peace of mind. Persuade your partners to be screened as well.
