HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) Vaccination Recommendations
- HPV vaccines in Singapore are approved for routine vaccination from age 9 to age 45.
- Vaccination is recommended for everyone up to age 26 years. Vaccination is not recommended for everyone older than age 26 years.
- Most sexually active adults will have been exposed to HPV. There are more than 60 strains of Human Papilloma viruses that may cause cervical cancer.
- Irrespective of age, having a new sex partner is a risk factor for getting a HPV infection.
- People who are in a long-term, mutually monogamous relationship are not likely to get a new HPV infection.
- Adults ages 27 through 45 years might decide to get the HPV vaccine, particularly if they are single and sexually active.
- HPV vaccination prevents new HPV infections but does not treat pre-existing HPV infections or cervical cancer. HPV vaccine is most effective when given before becoming sexually active.
Vaccination Schedules
- HPV vaccination is given as a series of either two or three doses, depending on age.
- Two doses of HPV vaccine are recommended for most people who are age 15 or younger.
- The second dose of HPV vaccine should be given 6 to 12 months after the first dose.
- Three doses of HPV vaccine are recommended for teens and young adults in Singapore who are vaccinated at ages 15 through 26 years, and for immunocompromised persons.
- The recommended three-dose schedule is 0, 1–2 and 6 months.
- Three doses of HPV vaccine are recommended for adults in Singapore who are vaccinated at ages 27 through 45 years, and for immunocompromised persons.
- The recommended three-dose schedule is 0, 1–2 and 6 months.
